LOCKOUT IS ON!

A hoops fan nightmare has come into a reality. The talks between the NBA team owners and the players union had formally ended and no agreement was reached upon. It is now expected that the owners will impose a lockout by 12 noon (Manila time) today. The lockout threatens a possible cancellation of the 2011-12 season. The past days leading to the deadline for a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) saw some players jumped ship to various Euro clubs such as Nenad Krstic, who played for the Boston Celtics and Oklahoma City Thunder last season, with CSKA Moscow, Atlanta Hawks center Hilton Armstrong with  ASVEL Villeurbanne of the French League, and erstwhile Houston Rockets big man David Andersen with Montepaschi Siena of the Italian League.  NBA Basketball Players Association Executive Director Billy Hunter says with the expected lockout, it is now the proper time to buckle down to serious negotiations, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“They're going to lock us out, and I said, 'Maybe we can now really begin to negotiate’. We’ve been waiting for the lockout, now there’s a lockout. Let’s get down to business.”
