PICKING THE RIGHT MAN IN TIM PICKETT

It was painfully hard for the Meralco Bolts to part ways with import scoring machine Champ Oguchi in the ongoing PBA Governor’s Cup. But with Meralco struggling for only two wins in their first four games, the Bolts decided to bring in a new foreign reinforcement to bolster its bid in the season-ending conference. Meralco brought in Tim Pickett, the number 45 pick over-all of the New Orleans Hornets in the 2004 NBA rookie draft out of Florida State University. In his PBA debut, Pickett exploded for 32 points, 11 rebounds and four assists as led the Bolts to a 93-86 win over the fading Air21 Express squad. The 6-4 Daytona Beach (Fla.) native is a well-travelled journeyman, who had seen action in Italy, Bulgaria, China, Puerto Rico, and Israel. This past season, Pickett averaged an impressive 27.1 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 17 games for the Jilin squad in the Chinese pro league. He later suited up for Ironi Ashkelon in the tough Israeli pro circuit and posted norms of 10.4 ppg, 3.7 rpg and 1.0 apg in seven outings. Bolts head coach Ryan Gregorio thinks they have found the right import in the 30 year-old, former Daytona Beach Mainland High School star, according to the Philippine Star.

“He’s pretty much what’s the doctor ordered for our team lacking in personnel. Aside from being a scorer, he has the ability to bring down the ball and play D.”
