Most of the guys who were there still remember the carnage. In last season’s second round playoff series between the Atlanta Hawks and the Orlando Magic, the latter swept the former in four straight games, which led to the dismissal of then Hawks head coach Mike Woodson. It was one of the most lopsided series in NBA playoffs history, which saw the Magic winning by an average of 25 points per victory. Fast forward to the 2011 first round playoffs, the Magic plays the Hawks anew but this time a round earlier. The way the Hawks played the first game seems like there is something playing in the backs of their minds, most probably revenge. Joe Johnson scored 25 points to lead the Hawks to a 103-93 road win and take a 1-0 lead in the series. The win came as a surprise to many considering that the Hawks are coming off from a 6-game losing streak at the end of the regular season. Hawks head coach Larry Drew cited the inconsistency in his charges but he believes that when it comes to games that really matters, his boys will rise up to the occasion, according to Yahoo! Sports.
“I know this team can be up and down at times. I know this team can show signs of being really good and other times show signs of showing a disinterest. But I really believe that when it’s time to turn it on they know how to turn it on.”
