JEFFRIES’ DEFENSE IMPRESSES D’ANTONI

Despite averaging only 0.3 points an outing in his first four games of his second tenure with the New York Knicks, Jared Jeffries continues to start at the center position for the Gotham City outfit. Mind boggling? No, never mind if he can’t shoot. Leave that aspect to Carmelo Anthony and A'mare Stoudemire. It all boils down to the 6-11 former Indiana University standout’s defensive game. Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni sees Jeffries as a valuable piece in his rotation, according to ESPN.

“He's a very good defensive player, he moves the ball, he understands what we want done, he gives us that multiple possessions on the offensive rebounding, tapping balls out. He's just an energy guy that kind of glues everything together.

“He's a valuable piece for us although he doesn't score, but he doesn't have to. This team is a little bit different than a normal team. You don't have to space the floor as much because you have such good individual players, so I just think it's a perfect fit for us.”
