This Puerto Rican hotshot is really one lucky guy. After being cut by the Miami Heat a week ago to give way to veteran signee Mike Bibby, backup point guard Carlos Arroyo has found a new home in the Eastern Conference pace-setters, the Boston Celtics. The Celtics are badly in need of a reliever for starting PG Rajon Rondo and Arroyo could fit in the bill with erstwhile second-string quarterback Delonte West recovers from his latest episode of ailments. The 6-2, Fajardo native is a nine-year veteran, with career averages of 6.7 ppg and 3.1 apg in 554 total games with the Toronto Raptors, Denver Nuggets, Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic and the Heat. The Celtics signed Arroyo for the remainder of the season, according to The Boston Globe.
“The Celtics have reached an agreement with former Heat point guard Carlos Arroyo, an NBA source said yesterday. Arroyo, 31, who is expected to provide relief for Rajon Rondo, could join the Celtics for their visit to Milwaukee tonight.
“With Delonte West (sprained ankle) not due to return until Wednesday’s game against the Clippers, the Celtics were concerned about Rondo’s minutes. Arroyo, whose contract was bought out by the Heat before the March 1 deadline, will be eligible for the playoffs.”
