Miami Heat Fil-Am head coach Erik Spoelstra values the importance of communication and coordination in the game of basketball. The desire is always there to demand from his players, in both offensive and defensive ends, to constantly talk or communicate using hand signs or simple eye contacts while inside the court. According to Spoelstra, those are critical factors that will maintain higher level of play at all times. It also avoids indecisiveness and mental lapses which usually result into costly turnovers.

“Communication is critical; it’s something you have to work on everyday with young players because it doesn’t come natural. We always have to demand our players to communicate. It’s a game that requires it. If you don’t, you’ll see yourself at a lower level of play.”
