John Lucas made his mark as a top-caliber point guard while playing for the Houston Rockets during the late 1970’s. The 6-3 guard out of the University of Maryland was drafted as the top pick over-all in the 1976 NBA rookie draft by the Rockets. He saw action for 14 campaigns, including five years in Houston, while submitting norms of 10.7 ppg and 7.0 apg in 928 total games. After retirement, Lucas embarked on a coaching career and have stints as head coach with the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers. He has an over-all NBA coaching record of 173-258 win-loss mark (.401) in six seasons. Now Lucas is looking forward of making an NBA coaching comeback with the Rockets. Lucas says he had a good meeting recently with the Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey concerning the coaching vacancy, according to My Fox-Houston.
“I am an old school Rocket. I bleed Rockets red.”
