Russell Westbrook is one heck of a point guard, but to be more effective, Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Scott Brooks thinks he must be assertive. That is what Brooks hopes to develop in the 6-3, former UCLA standout this season. Brooks says Westbrook, being the quarterback, must be vocal and demanding with his teammates, according to The Oklahoman. He is actually the extension of his coach on the floor, added Brooks, the NBA coach of the year last season.
“I tell him that’s the job of a point guard. You’ve got to be demanding out there. You got to make sure they’re in the right position because I don’t yell at them as much as I yell at him. That’s just the way it is. He’s my coach on the floor. And he has to be able to vocalize every time down court where we need to be. And if they’re not in position it’s on him.”
