Every 3rd Monday of January is the celebration of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in the United States. King was an American clergyman, activist, and prominent leader in the African American civil rights movement. His strong influence being an iconic figure in the advancement of civil rights in the United States and around the world has touched the lives of every American. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Charles Barkley, both legendary NBA players, recently spoke highly about the heroic leader in the history of modern American liberalism, according to the Detroit News and Shewired.com, respectively. Barkley even went on touching the gay discrimination issue.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: “That brief brush with Dr. King really changed my life and motivated me. It made me understand that I needed to do something meaningful if I was going to contribute to what we all aspire to, and that is freedom, justice and equality for all.”
Charles Barkley: “You know, people try to make it about black and white. He talked about equality for every man, every woman. We have a thing going on now — people discriminating against homosexuality in this country. I love the homosexual people. God bless the gay people. They are great people.”
