Peja Stojakovic, who was once the most-feared shooter in the NBA, is packing his bags and ready to join the Western Conference powerhouse Dallas Mavericks. The Toronto Raptors has just bought out his contract paving the way for his entry into Mark Cuban’s franchise. The 33 year-old Croatian hotshot started the season with the New Orleans Hornets but was traded with Jerryd Bayless to the Raptors last November 20 for David Andersen, Marcus Banks and Jarrett Jack. He is currently averaging career-lows of 8.1 ppg and 1.1 rpg in combined 33 games with New Orleans and Toronto. The Mavericks has already received a verbal commitment from Stojakovic, according to ESPN.
“The Dallas Mavericks have quickly received a verbal commitment from the just-released Peja Stojakovic that he intends to sign with Dallas upon clearing waivers, according to sources close to the situation.
“Sources told ESPN.com that the Mavericks, meanwhile, are closing in on a separate trade with Toronto -- sending little-used center Alexis Ajinca to Toronto -- to create a roster spot for Stojakovic without having to let newcomer Sasha Pavlovic go. A trade call with the league office to secure final approval was scheduled for Thursday night.”
