GRIZZLIES: LIFE AFTER RUDY GAY?

If there is one thing that the Memphis Grizzlies has proved in their surprising run in this year’s edition of the NBA playoffs is that the team can live without its so-called heart and soul and leading scorer, Rudy Gay. Their opening round big upset win over the Western Conference top-seeds, the San Antonio Spurs and their ongoing head-to-head battle with the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round, can all be attributed to the great team effort anchored on Zach Randolph and guys like Marc Gasol, Mike Conley, Darrell Arthur, OJ Mayo and Tony Allen doing their own shares. All of these without Gay, who suffered from a dislocated shoulder last February. Win or lose against the Thunder could only mean one thing and that is Gay could be in the trading block this summer. A new era in Elvistown is about to unfold. Well-known NBA writer David Aldridge wrote an interesting article about Gay and the Grizzlies in the league’s official website.

“Do the Grizzlies have to think about trading Rudy Gay this summer?

“I say this not because Gay has done anything wrong -- he hasn't -- or because the Grizzlies are unhappy with their star forward -- they aren't. But sometimes circumstances conspire to create a new reality that is so overwhelming it forces one's hand. And the Grizzlies' postseason run this year could create that kind of momentum.”
