THE RISE OF JAMES JONES

During the days leading off to their much-awaited showdown with the Boston Celtics, talks on the Miami Heat centered expectedly on the celebrated trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Nobody else talks with interest about the bench players of the Heat, much more on journeyman forward James Jones. But on opening night of the best-of-seven 2nd round playoff series, Jones took the spotlight almost all by himself. He was on fire the whole night draining shots from everywhere to finish with a playoff career-high of 25 points as the South Beach outfit took a commanding 1-0 lead. For sure, nobody expected the 6-8 Miami native, who averaged only 5.9 points per game in 81 outings this past regular season, to explode this way. Maybe just himself. Jones says he is the kind of player who let his action speaks louder than words, according to the Miami Herald.

“Big picture. There’s so much more to do. I expect greater moments. I expect to experience some things I never have as a player or person. Yesterday will hinder you from improving tomorrow. Staying grounded. Staying humble. Staying hungry. Talking is kind of irrelevant right now. It is all about action.”
