THE ACHILLES HEEL

Injuries are fast becoming the Achilles Heel of formidable teams midway this season. Without LeBron James, the Miami Heat has lost their last three games. Minus Dirk Nowitzki and Caron Butler, the Dallas Mavericks has suffered five straight defeats and eight of their last ten outings. Nowitzki, who has just returned to action after sitting out nine straight games due to a strained right knee (he has not missed more than six games in a season in his NBA career prior to his latest injury), says the Mavericks has reached the rock bottom of this epic struggle and needs to do something very quick to arrest the skid, according to ESPN.

“It's gone downhill since we had two injuries, so we pretty much hit rock bottom. I mean, we can't get any lower so we have to scratch our way out of it. We'll get away from it [Sunday], get recharged for a big one Monday. It doesn't slow down from there.”
