DOUBLY HURT

Team Puerto Rico suffered a double black eye during their 75-66 defeat to Russia in the FIBA World Championships in Turkey. Aside from the loss, Puerto Rico’s campaign is on the rocks following the injury of top player Carlos Arroyo in the said game. Puerto Rico head coach Manolo Cintron said that Arroyo is currently undergoing physical treatment and his status is listed as day-to-day, according to FIBA.com. Angel Vasallo will take Arroyo’s spot on a temporary basis.

“Carlos is really hurt. He has a contusion in his quadriceps, very close to his left hip. He is undergoing physical treatment and taking medication to make the swelling go down.”
