INGLORIOUS EXIT FOR COACH JIM O'BRIEN

After watching the Indiana Pacers went down in another humiliating defeat to the Chicago Bulls on the road yesterday, 110-89, I still did not have any inkling that it would be the final game of Jim O’Brien as head coach of the Pacers. And what a way to go for the 58 year-old Philadelphia native after being ejected in the final half of his last Pacers game. It later became a double black-eye as Pacers President Larry Bird announced the firing of the nine-year NBA mentor. The Pacers were 17-27 at the time of O’Brien’s exit. O’Brien has an over-all NBA coaching record of 303-327 win-loss mark (.481) with the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers and the Pacers. Assistant coach Frank Vogel will coach the Pacers on an interim basis. Bird says it’s time to move on for his team as they try to get back on track and take a possible shot at the playoffs, according to the Indy Star.

“We let Jimmy go today. I want to thank him for his three and a half years of service. He's going to be missed but we move on. Our players understand we're trying to do all we can to get back on the right track.”
