GALLANT EFFORT

It was not really meant to be. As the lowest seeded team in the wildcard phase, the Air21 Express gallantly fought back from a 21-point deficit only to lose steam in the endgame and bade goodbye as well to their 2010 PBA Fiesta Conference campaign, with a heartbreaking 92-89 defeat to the Rain Or Shine Elasto Painters last night at the Big Dome.

The Elasto Painters will now meet the Coca-Cola Tigers in a do-or-die game on Wednesday night for the right to meet the Derby Ace Llamados in the quarterfinals. The Tigers dumped the Sta. Lucia Realtors, 100-84. Rain Or Shine coach Caloy Garcia gave credit to his wards in carving out the hard earned victory.

"Every time we play Air21, it always ends up the same way -- close game, running game and physical game. I give credit to the players, especially Sol (Mercado). He failed to join the practice because his dad had a heart attack. He's dedicated this game and this win for his team and his dad."
