The Wells Fargo Center is the new name of the Philadelphia 76ers homecourt beginning next season, according to ESPN. The building was constructed in 1996 and was originally known as Spectrum II. It has gone several name changes during the last 14 years such as CoreStates Center, First Union Center and Wachovia Center, in honor of the arena sponsor.
"The name of the arena that is home to the Philadelphia Flyers and 76ers has been changed from the Wachovia Center to the Wells Fargo Center.
"Comcast-Spectacor, which owns and operates the 21,000-seat venue, says the change reflects the change in the financial institutions. Wells Fargo bought Wachovia in December 2008."
