An
amazing 13-1 windup lifted the La Salle Green Archers to a pulsating 66-63
come-from-behind victory over arch-rivals Ateneo Blue Eagles in a UAAP game before a jampacked crowd at the Araneta Coliseum. The pace of the game actually
picked-up during the last quarter after an anemic first half . The game was an
eyesore during the first 20 minutes that I almost gave up watching its final
half. The FG percentages was so awful at halftime with only 23% for the Archers
while the Eagles have it at 27%. But Ateneo started the final quarter like an house
on fire, making their first eight attempts to erect the biggest lead of the
ballgame at 62-53 with 4:55 to go. But the rookie-ladden Green Archers caught
fire to limit the Blue Eagles to just a point at crunch time. Archer Joseph
Marata had a perfect game of 12 points, all from behind the arc. La Salle coach Dindo Pumaren was very proud of the effort
dished out by his boys.
“I’m very happy and so
proud of my players. La
Salle hasn’t won in a while so it’s about time. We played good
defense. It’s all about the attitude. I
saw the game face that I was looking for from my players.”
