During the 1980 PBA Open championship series, the U-Tex Wranglers of coach Tommy Manotoc was all set to close out the series in game four against the Toyota Super Corollas. But Toyota has other things in mind as they came out victorious and evened up the best-of-five series at two games apiece. Manotoc came out with a quote which surprised most of the media men during the post-game interview.
Since then, the said quote has become legendary to many PBA followers. And the Wranglers went on to win the title in a thrilling game five OT victory, 99-98.
“One step backward; two steps forward.”
