HOW SWEET IT IS

Fiesta Conference Finals MVP
Cyrus Baguio goes up for a
jumper.
For coach Tim Cone, winning his 13th championship title is the sweetest thing of all. The Alaska Aces are now tied with the legendary Crispa Redmanizers for the second spot among the all-time winningest teams in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Cone and the Aces walloped the San Miguel Beermen, 102-88 last night, to win 4-2 in the best-of-seven PBA Fiesta Conference title series. Cone believes that the key to their success is import Diamon Simpson. According to the longest tenured coach in league history, the Beermen has no answer for the hardworking former St. Mary College standout. Cone added that this championship is something special considering what the team had gone though in their road to glory. Both of their quarterfinals and semis series against Ginebra and Talk N Text, respectively, went the distance. Cone made sure the finals would not be stretched to a deciding seventh game.

“He (Simpson) is the one guy no else had an answer for. He is young, he is energetic. They just did not have an answer for him.

“We’d had 12 championships but this one was so special, considering the road we took going here. July 4 was our last dayoff and had to go through a road so incredible. It was so special winning against great teams, great coaches.”
