Legendary coach David Blatt will finally call it a day as mentor of Team Russia at the conclusion of the FIBA World Championships, according to FIBA.com. Blatt has been at the helm of the Russian National team for the last six years and said he had seen enough of bad politics in basketball for the former Soviet Union. The US-born Israeli coach made his mark when he led Russia to the 2007 Euro Basket crown with an upset win over host Spain.
“I have been coaching the same national team for six years, now. I gave it all my heart. Unfortunately, now I feel that the politics of Russian basketball is very bad and I am tired of it. I have had enough. I just don’t want to coach the national team anymore.”
