After too much speculations, Glen (Doc) Rivers is returning as head coach of the Boston Celtics for the 2010-11 campaign. Rivers has led the Beantown outfit to the NBA finals twice in the last three years, winning the 2008 title, which is Boston’s first championship after 22 long years.
Torn between family and the love of the game, Rivers finally decided to return to coaching once more after weeks of consultation with his family and friends. And so the dream of the Celtics for an 18th championship banner comes alive once more.
"A lot of soul-searching with the family. Talking to my wife, she was really the one who said, 'You've got to.' I just think she wanted me out of the house more than anything. My kids all said, 'You're a coach. That's what you are. And you're a parent, and we appreciate both.' And so that made it easier.
It's like my kids say, 'You come to more games than most parents doing your job. It's not going to be a big change. I'm still going to get to attend their games.
We want to go after this one more time, and we have Kevin (Garnett) and Paul (Pierce) and Ray (Allen) hopefully all coming back, so why not?. Let's see if we can do it one more time.”
