DEJECTED

Before the start of the USA Basketball training camp, Reigning NBA rookie of the year Tyreke Evans of the Sacramento Kings, was very excited and is looking forward of proudly wearing his country’s colors in the FIBA World Basketball Championships in Turkey next month. But unfortunately, the 6-6 former University of Memphis star was cut from the final fifteen lineup of coach Mike Krzyzewski, according to an article in the Sacramento Bee. Evans’ shattered dream actually began and ended during the first day of the camp when he suffered a sprained left ankle in practice. USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said he feels sorry for a talent like Evans. Colangelo further said that Evans could have been a vital cog for the Nationals.

"Tyreke never had a shot. He got a bad break and became very dejected. He literally went into a shell. What we told him to go forward was, 'Lift your head. You can't worry about what you can't control. We obviously have great interest in you. We'll see you again.’ ”
