READY TO GO

The Smart Gilas Team Pilipinas will play Taiwan University to start their campaign in the 2010 Williams Jones Cup Invitational Championship in Taipeh tomorrow. Coach Rajko Toroman expects a tough competition in the seven-team, six-nation annual tourney. Four of the country’s Asian rivals set to see action in the coming Asian Games in November are also entered in this year's edition of the Jones Cup and Toroman believes this will further test the readiness of his team. Aside from the National teams of Iran, Lebanon, Japan and host Taiwan, other teams participating are the powerhouse Townsville Crocodiles of the Australian NBL and the Taiwan University.

“This Jones Cup is tough but exciting competition. We’ll see how we’re doing in training. It will give us a good idea where we are at the moment.”

“We are up against four Asian contenders and that makes me excited. Some of our players have recovered from injuries and we now have Douthit. We’ll now see how we fare with this team.”
